A friend of mine claims to have been the only person awake in the Midlands who was keeping quiet enough at the time to notice this alleged earthquake, which he claims was rather like a train passing in the middle distance. I suspect that the whole thing was really the delayed 12.04 from Paddington, which was due in Crewe two days earlier.
